Devlog #49 - Gotta Go

I spent a huge amount of time this past sprint prepping for groups/parties as I refactored a lot of the server side combat code to be much faster and to also be completely thread safe. Mobs and players are on different threads and all player requests can come in on any thread so getting concurrency right has always been a challenge. Thankfully Java has great concurrency collections and they've only gotten better over the last decade.

I also spent a huge amount of time optimizing map rendering code and number over head rendering code. Much much less of our ever growing map is sent to the GPU now. Also, all of the pitfalls I have discovered in BabylonJS GUI code/design have been removed from the over head numbers making it way faster than before.

Gotta Go finally returned! Which means I implemented buffing/changing movement speed. Running around with GG on is so much nicer for traveling long distances.

We finally got a decent quest log this week. It will be improved with goals, rewards, progress.

The Cat has returned and has been killing most everyone that crosses its path.

T1 crafting and armor are getting much closer to being completed! Just in the last couple weeks we've gotten both Int and Agi T1 sets to go with Stam.

I've relayed the comments to Perseus and he may be making a darker version for everyone to consider. Stay tuned.

After some drama with an Olympus guild member and its guild leader, who hasn't contacted me by the way, I made the decision to ban both of their accounts and liquidate the guild. I didn't make this decision lightly. I haven't banned anyone since August 2023, so it's not like I do this a lot. If you dox anyone you will be permanently banned. Doxxing is never ok.

After that we held a vote on the guild member cap.

What should be the guild member cap?

The 100 member cap is winning at the moment and will be implemented once the poll ends. For now just remember that if you go over 100 you will be forced to remove members to get back down to 100.

Development of the Spring Battle Pass has started and we need your feedback to choose which sets will go into it.

I've already given the green light for Perseus to make a Duck set so that one is set in stone.

"There’s been quite a bit of content progress since the last devlog!

We’ve finally wrapped up Mirabella Cove assets and are about to finish closing out Tier 1! It’s been quite the journey but this marks a major milestone for the content team. Lots of FO2 originals and we’ve completed a full rework of a full sized map.  

Cave of Despair development is full steam ahead. With the new “magma” themed cave, we’re rebuilding this map from the ground up with all new NPCs, mobs, items, and quests. Keep an eye out for community polls which will help us shape this new area.  I heard there’s going to be a new faction which needs a fun name… Obsidian Brotherhood maybe??

Besides CoD, we’re also preparing for the new Battle Pass which will be loaded with Farm / Spring sets and I’m also personally working on a new gem box. Dino is slowly but steadily chipping away at the Forgotten Wasteland rework so we’ll be able to immediately begin work on that map as soon as CoD is done. Finally, it’s about time for a new Art Contest and I’ll be releasing our next theme in the coming days as well! 

There’s so much work to be done but I hope you all can enjoy as we continue to release updates on a daily basis. "

Great job guys! With Perseus and Dino working on art and content I've been able to focus much more time on code which has led to things progressing much faster than in 2023!

In the upcoming weeks I'll be working on bank tabs, groups/parties, and maybe finally getting the 25 quests into Mirabella Cove. All the mobs, drops, npcs, are pretty much done for MC!
